Yamhill County Action Program (YCAP) has partnered with a number of local wineries to offer lovers of wine country a chance to create their own wine tour while joining the fight against hunger in the county.

The 10-day event, called Together!, pits participating wineries against customers in a friendly competition to raise the most food and funds, all of which will go to the county food bank and community food agencies such as Newberg F.I.S.H. and Dundee Promise Pantry.

“For those who make local winery tours and tasting room visits a summer tradition, but don’t have one planned yet, Together! is a fun, creative way to support local food pantries and receive thank-yous from each participating winery for your generosity,” said Tad Beckwith, YCAP’s food bank resource development coordinator. “It is a food and fund drive so you can load your car with bags of canned food (meats, vegetables, etc.) or bring some extra cash for a donation of a ‘virtual’ can of food.”

Ronni Lacroute, owner of Willakenzie Estates, said she is excited to get on board: “Since Willakenzie Estates believes strongly in supporting the local community, we are very pleased to participate in Together! in order to help our local food pantries to better serve their clients. We welcome the enthusiastic participation of our winery visitors in this friendly ten day competition, which benefits everyone.”

The last Yamhill County food drive, held during the 2013 holiday season, also benefitted YCAP and raised nearly 20,000 pounds of food over the course of several weeks.

The event begins Wednesday and continues through June 15. For more information, or a list of the participating wineries, visit www.y
