Newberg man arrested after mom loses finger to bow

A Newberg woman was shot in the hand by her son Sunday evening, which resulted in her finger being amputated.

Randall Bracken, 21, was arrested less than an hour later after a neighbor on North Harrison Street called in the assault. Bracken was found walking on Chehalem Drive with a loaded compound bow “in a low ready position and was refusing to follow orders,” according to a Newberg-Dundee Police Department press release. Soon thereafter, Bracken complied and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Yamhill County jail in McMinnville on $162,500 bail. He is charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.

His mother was taken to a Portland area hospital by the Newberg Fire Department where doctors amputated the severed finger.
