Habitat for Humanity looking for volunteers

Volunteerism — Christian housing ministry offers a number of ways to get involved in Newberg

Habitat for Humanity builds, simple, decent and affordable homes for local families, but the organization cannot function without its volunteers.

There are several ways to get involved with the organization on a local level. Specifically, they are looking for groups of 10 to reserve work Saturdays and individuals who are willing to work on Thursdays at the newest construction site on Eighth and Blaine streets.

A construction volunteer’s day with Habitat for Humanity typically begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m., with lunch included.

The ministry is also looking for volunteers to take up positions on any number of the committees that support planning for building projects. The committees that need positions filled are: site development/ acquisition, building, church relations, finance, family support, family selection and the organization’s board of directors.

One other spot people can plug in with the organization is by volunteering on a weekly basis at the Newberg ReStore, 305 N. Main St. There volunteers can assist with floor sales and or picking up donations.

To reserve a Saturday build group or help with construction on Thursdays, call Lisa Thomas at 503-537-9938. If interested in volunteering at the ReStore, call Dave Hoerner at 503-547-5860.
