Several members of Newberg FFA excelled at recent district competitions, headlined by Margaret Halstead, who placed first in advanced (prepared) public speaking and second in advanced extemporaneous speaking.

Halstead was also a member of Newberg’s second-place advanced parliamentary procedure team, along with Tia Piscitelli, Madison Plummer, Kyle Lutz, Shelby Self and Cayd Erickson.

Finishing second behind Halstead in advanced public speaking was Madeline Kuhn, while Johanna DeJoria placed first ahead of Halstead in advanced extemporaneous speaking.

In the sophomore public speaking division, Karissa Noragon placed third and Emily Sandberg fifth. Peter Gentile won the beginning public speaking competition, with Katelynn Lane placing third. Gentile and Lane also teamed up with Gage Hannan, Megan Brown, Kylie Duey and Israel Pintor to place second in beginning parliamentary procedure.

First and second place winners will compete at the sectional contest March 3 at Sherwood High School. First- and second-place individual winners, as well as first place Parliamentary Procedure teams, will qualify to move on to the state convention March 21-24 in Bend.
