Cultural district will open for business on Friday
Culture Ribbon cutting will signal the end of Newberg Cultural District first phase
The first phase in the Newberg Cultural District will be unveiled Friday with a ribbon cutting of the Sheridan Street space in front of the Chehalem Cultural Center.
Jason Wuertz, project manager, said the ceremony will start at 9 a.m. and last until 9:30 or 9:45 a.m., depending on how long people talk.
With a few refreshments, and an introduction by Vida Ice from the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce, the NCD will be open to the public and can start serving as Newbergs living room as envisioned when the project began in 2011 with fundraising efforts.
Wuertz said there might be a few things not completed when the ribbon is cut.
Some landscaping around the Cultural Center building is going to be completed by CPRD after the contractor is finished, he said. There is a slight possibility that the rainwater runnels will not be installed. I am pretty optimistic that they will be completed in time for the ribbon cutting though. Everything else will be wrapped up.
He said the district looks great.
Its very satisfying to go from conceptual drawings to the real thing, he said. Im also excited to see people using the space this spring and summer.
