Holiday patrols fruitful

Public safety — Department says nineteen impaired drivers arrested from Dec. 13 through Jan. 2

Five law enforcement agencies throughout Yamhill County arrested more than a dozen impaired drivers during an effort concentrated around the holidays.

According to a release provided by the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, 19 motorists were arrested for driving under the effects of alcohol or drugs from Dec. 13 through Jan. 2. The agencies involved include the Newberg-Dundee, McMinnville, Yamhill and Amity police departments as well as the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office.

Three of the arrests came after crashes where impairment was a factor, the release said. None of the crashes resulted in fatalities, the release added.

“We would like to thank all of our fellow community members who behaved responsibly and chose to have a designated driver or not consume intoxicants if they were going to drive,” said Capt. Jeff Kosmicki of the NDPD. “Truly, highway safety is all of our responsibility.”
