Human Trafficking awareness workshops held Jan. 11

McMINNVILLE — A Human Trafficking Awareness Day workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Chemeketa Community College campus. The workshop includes a screening of the movie “Chosen,” discussing male defenders, and presentations of the Deceptions program and Girls, Inc. The workshop will close with a survivor panel. The event is hosted by Soroptimist International of McMinnville.

Handgun license class slated Jan. 18 in Newberg

There will be a concealed handgun license class hosted by the Newberg Rifle and Pistol Club from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 18.

The class will be held at the club’s range at 15955 N.E. Quarry Road. Graduates will be eligible to apply for an Oregon concealed handgun license and will be fingerprinted and have a passport photo taken as a part of the class. To register, visit www.nrpc.net.

Citizens’ Rate Review Committee to discuss wastewater, springs rates at next two meetings

The Citizens’ Rate Review Committee will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Jan. 22 at the Public Safety Building. The committee develops rates for water, wastewater, stormwater and springs.

Zumba classes starting soon

The Chehalem Park and Recreation District has several Zumba classes starting soon. Aqua Zumba starts Jan. 23 and will be on Thursdays and Fridays. Zumba Kids starts Jan. 28 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Zumba for beginners started Jan. 7 and occurs every Tuesday. A regular Zumba class is still offered Monday through Thursday. NAMI education class to begin

A free, 12-week class for family members of individuals with mental illness, sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), begins at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13. The class meets every week through March 31 at the Dundee Community Center.
