GFU hires experienced development executive

Higher ed — Longtime industry vet Lynn Andrews combes to Newberg after three years as VP of advancement at Marylhurst University

George Fox University has reached out to hire Lynn Andrews, a development professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field, to serve as vice president of advancement strategy and donor relations in the school’s advancement office.

Andrews, who served as vice president for university advancement at Marylhurst University since 2010, will oversee the strategic leadership of the university’s development projects. Brian Gardner, vice president for university advancement since 2011, will remain in the office as an associate vice president, leading the school’s major gift staff and capital efforts.

Having served as the director of development for Oregon Episcopal School in Portland and as the vice president of development at Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma, Wash., prior to her time at Marylhurst, Andrews has extensive experience in the educational setting and also served as the director of annual giving at the University of Puget Sound for four years in the early 2000s.

“I am looking forward to joining the George Fox team and working to enable the university’s advancement effort to grow,” Andrews said. “The involvement and investment of students, alumni, parents, donors, foundations and strategic partners is critical. It is one way to affirm our university’s impact on the world. The education students receive here develops their potential and ultimately contributes to the common good. It’s an investment worth making.”

According to university President Robin Baker, Andrews’ strength not only comes from her experience, but, as a person who highly values the transformational work that happens at Christian institutions, from her character as well.

“Lynn is passionate about Christian higher education and comes highly recommended to us,” Baker said. “She is a careful strategic thinker and brings a new perspective. She is a person of high energy and the experienced person we need to provide strategic leadership to our entire (development) program.”

In addition, Andrews is currently the vice president of membership for the Oregon and Southwest Washington chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Iowa.

She began her duties at George Fox this week.
