State minimum wage due to increase to $9.10 an hour in January

Oregon’s minimum wage will increase 15 cents an hour Jan. 1 to $9.10.

Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian said last week that the new rate would mean a raise for about 98,000 workers.

“With this increase in Oregon’s wage floor, nearly 100,000 Oregonians will earn more money for groceries, school supplies, gas and other household essentials,” he said. “That’s good not just for individual workers, but for our state’s economy.”

Voters approved in 2002 a ballot measure to adjust the state’s minimum wage annually based on inflation. Each year, Avakian calculates the adjustment by measuring the increase to the Consumer Price Index.
