Newberg UGB still open for objections
Land use Deadline for objections extended last week to Sept. 16
Objections to the city of Newbergs request to add an additional 260 acres in its urban growth boundary were due Sept. 3, but an extension was granted last week moving that deadline to Sept. 16.
Planning and Building Director Barton Brierley said one objection has been filed so far by an individual, but he expects more to be filed before the new deadline.
The expansion, which was approved by Yamhill County Board of Commissioners in July, would create an industrially zoned area of land south of Newberg near Highway 219.
Those who wish to object must meet three conditions, according to Brierley. They must have participated in a public hearing concerning the UGB; they must explain what goals, rules or statues have been violated that warrant their objection; and they need to recommend a change that would resolve their objection.
Written objections may be submitted to Attention: Periodic Review Specialist at the Department of Land Conservation and Development, 635 Capitol St. N.E., Suite 150, Salem, OR 97301. A copy should also be sent to the Newberg Planning Division at P.O. Box 970, Newberg, OR 97132.
