PNMC offers 10-week weight management class for youth

Providence Newberg Medical Center will host a 10-week weight management program designed for young people ages 8 to 15 years old from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays between Sept. 11 and Nov. 13. Children and their parents will learn about nutrition and physical activity from registered dieticians and fitness specialists in an active group setting. Classes are 90 minutes and begin with 40 minutes of exercise, so children and parents should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. An interactive class with the PNMC dietitian will include discussions about portion distortion, emotional eating, food choices and physical activity. Each child’s physician must give a referral to the Providence Neurodevelopmental Center for Children for an assessment with a registered dietician before enrolling. Cost is $250 for the general public and $125 for Providence Health Plan members. For more information or to register, call 503-215-2509 or visit www.providenceoregon.org/pncc.
