HOLLY M. GILL - The contractor had bashed holes in the front wall and door area of the old courthouse last week, as demolition began on the old Jefferson County Courthouse. Heavy snowfall called a halt to demolition this week.
Demolition of the old Jefferson County Courthouse got underway last week, but was halted this week, as snow covered the area.

Groat Brothers, of Woodland, Washington, was the lowest of six bidders for the project, with a bid of $147,375 for the demolition project.

"They should be completed by mid-March," said County Administrator Jeff Rasmussen, noting that the county will schedule "building-breaking" ceremony prior to demolition.

Protective fencing has already been installed around the site. Because of its location in a floodway, no new construction will occur on the site, which will eventually be used for extra parking.
