November colder, drier than usual

November's weather was colder and drier in Madras than the average, according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 34.9 degrees, which was 3.4 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 47.5 degrees, which was 1.8 degrees below normal. The highest was 61 degrees on Nov. 1.

Low temperatures averaged 22.4 degrees, which was 4.9 degrees below normal. The lowest was 0 degrees, on the 21st. There were 24 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.08 inches during November, which was 1.17 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on six days, with the heaviest, 0.02 inches reported on Nov. 8.

The highest wind gust was 38 mph which occurred on Nov. 2.

The outlook for December from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for near to below normal temperatures and near normal precipitation.

Normal highs for Madras fall from 43 degrees at the start of December to 39 degrees at the end of December. Normal lows fall from 24 degrees to 22 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.38 inches.
