Josey Swain had four hits with a double, a triple and three RBIs as Molalla advanced to Saturday's consolation semifinals of the Oregon Junior State Baseball Association championships at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis.

Designated hitter Josey Swain went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and to help lead a 19-hit attack that carried Molalla to a 17-9 rout of Philomath in Friday’s consolation round of the Oregon Junior State Baseball Association championships at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis.

Austin Alexander, Reed Aylett and Lucas Ellis added three hits each for the Indians, who survived their first elimination game and advanced to Saturday’s 11 a.m. consolation semifinal game at Crescent Valley against the winner of Friday’s Central-McNary game.

“We played well today,” Molalla coach Todd Potter said. “Our kids were into it and they weren’t ready to be done, you could tell from the get go.”

Trailing 1-0 in the first inning, the Indians scored four runs on three hits, including Ellis’ two-run homer off Philomath starter Austin Gerding.

Philomath pulled within 4-3 in the third when Molalla sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs on six hits. Daniel Stoddard had a two-run double that scored Aylett and Alexander, and Keaton Franco added a two-run single that pushed home Stoddard and Swain, giving the Indians an 8-3 lead.

Molalla added three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Franco started on the mound for the Indians and worked the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Aaron Alexander pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, surrendering one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
