Schaefer signs with CCC

Currently catching for MHS, senior Devon Schaefer will play outfield for CCC next year

Molalla High School senior Devon Schaefer recently signed with the Clackamas Community College Cougars to play baseball next season. Schaefer is currently catching for Molalla’s team, but he’ll be playing outfield for the Cougars.

He intends to get a business transfer degree while at CCC and then head to Oregon State University to complete his bachelor’s degree.by: FILE PHOTO - Devon Schaefer at bat last season. Schaefer will move on to play for Clackamas Community College after his final season at Molalla High School.

“I’ve always wanted to play college baseball and Clackamas is a good option,” Schaefer said. He’s looking forward to his last season with Molalla. The team is “young this year, so it’ll be difficult,” he said, but added that next year Molalla’s team should be strong.

This year, Schaefer is the most experienced player with Molalla. “There’s been pressure to step up, and I’ve tried to, and I believe I’m doing well so far,” he said.

Schaefer has put in a lot of hard work over the last few years and it’s paying off. Not many high school athletes get a chance to continue playing at the college level. The competition for spots on any college team is extremely high.

He’ll receive a partial scholarship, which will help pay for his tuition at CCC.

“It’s good to be recognized and move on,” Schaefer said.
