The boys team took first in districts on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 20th Century Lanes in Portland. First-seed Molalla took first in the tournament, followed by Barlow High School in second, and Gresham High School in third. The girls team, which is a mix of Molalla and Rex Putnam High School bowlers, took second at districts, finishing behind first-place Barlow and ahead of Oregon City.

The boys team is coming off a good season, having taken first at three of the four pre-district tournaments they went to. With every win, the team took home a bit of scholarship money for college.

They also had some mentionable scores. During practice on Jan. 29, the team bowled a 300 game, with the pressure on Jared Hartrampf rolling the final frame. Lane Phillips bowled a 299 during the Oregon Junior Classics in Salem on Jan. 19. Prior to that game Phillips best score was a 276, which he bowled two months prior. Phillips’ almost-perfect game left the four pin standing.

“It was a really hard game,” Phillips said. “I’m probably not going to get a chance like that again. It was so close. It felt really good.”
