Molalla's girls eye state, while the boys may finish short at district.

This week, Molalla’s cross country teams head to the Tri-Valley District meets in McIver Park.

“On the girls side, it’s just a stepping stone to state,” Coach Sheron Farner said.

The girls have been taking firsts all season. Leading the way for them has been senior Emily Bever, but the team as a whole is full of top-notch runners.

“They’ve had a great run [this season],” Farner said. “Barring any unforeseen circumstances they should take district.”

While the girls should slip into state with ease, the boys team will have a harder time getting there. They’ll rely heavily on junior Cameron Fischer to lead the way.

North Marion and La Salle are probably the top two teams in the district, Farner said. “If one them falters, a crack could open and the boys could take it … They’ll have to run their best.”
