Molallas boys soccer team stepped onto their home field on Thursday against Madras, the Tri-Valley Conference leader. Madras was coming off a 1-0 win against La Salle. Molalla was recovering from a hard-fought 3-3 tie in North Marion two days prior.
Both Molalla and Madras were undefeated in league play, and thats just how they left as well. The match ended 1-1.
The field was muddy and wet, and both teams scrambled and slipped at times. They were well-matched, quickly trading possession of the ball in a physical and hard-earned tie.
Madras (3-0-2) has bumped up their game this year and taken the league by surprise. Last year, they were ranked fourth, only managing to pick up three wins all season. Theyre playing a different tune this year, with fast, powerful play.
The Indians (2-0-3) kept up with Madras even though they couldnt pull the win.
Molalla was second in the league before the Madras match. A win would have put them at the top, but the tie, combined with La Salles same-day win against Estacada, bumped the Indians to third.
Next week, Molalla plays Gladstone, who they beat early in the season 1-0.
