by: CORY MIMMS - Bianca Delgado drives into Falcons' territory. Molalla’s girls soccer team faced La Salle on Tuesday. The field was wet when the game started, and it only got worse. Twelve minutes into the first half, the rain started pouring down.

Two minutes later, La Salle’s Veronica Horton got one past Molalla’s goalkeeper. The score remained 0-1, Falcons lead, the rest of the game.

This was Molalla’s second league game. Though they failed to get on the scoreboard, they played just as aggressively as they have all season.

Audrey Bever drove into La Salle’s territory 11 minutes in and took a shot, but the ball flew wide. Along with Bever, Bianca Delgado, Courtney Lapp and Chase Rome also fought hard, but the Falcons defense kept Molalla out of the net.

Last year, Molalla beat La Salle 3-0 on the Falcons’ field. The Indians took second in the league and La Salle third.

This year, the league is shaping up differently. The Falcons are off to a strong start, leading the league with two wins. If they beat Gladstone on Thursday, Sept. 26, they’ll have a good chance of holding the top spot all season.

Molalla is currently fifth in the league. The Indians play on the road this week as well, on Thursday, against Estacada at 6:30 p.m. They get another shot at the Falcons on Oct. 15.
