Soccer: Indians stomp Tigers


At home and on the road, Molalla defeats Junction City in first non-league games.

Boys win 5-0

The Indians opened their season with a big win on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Molalla controlled the ball early and kept the Tigers' defense running. by: CORY MIMMS - Darian Baughman cuts through the Tigers' defense and scores the first goal of the game.

Darian Baughman took the first goal before the fourth minute of play ended. Less than three minutes later, Luis Rojas lobbed one in from the corner.

A yellow card in the box moments later pulled Emmanuel Aquino from the goal and gave the Tigers a penalty kick. Replacement goalkeeper A.J. Escalante made the save with a dive.by: CORY MIMMS -  A.J. Escalante makes a diving save on a penalty kick.

Outside of a few offside kicks, Molalla continued to play well. With 15 minutes left in the first they were up 4-0, with Erik Dickson and Kyle Carpenter scoring third and fourth.

It was a brutal first half for the Tigers, and the game didn’t turn their way in the second half either. With a major lead, the Indians played smart. Fortino Medina landed the fifth goal with nine minutes left. The game ended 5-0.

Girls win 4-0

While the boys team was picking up points at home, the girls picked them up on the road. They played the Tigers on Tuesday as well, in Junction City.

The game started slow, with the first goal in the 25th minute by Audrey Bever.

Isabella Petitta scored late in the first half, while Josie Child and Kelsey Brandt put it in the net during the second. The game ended with a 4-0 win for Molalla. “The girls finished the game playing very well,” Head Coach Jim Seward said.
