Bowl with a bull rider

A pro-am style bowling tournament will be held at Molalla Bowl on Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. in order to raise funds for the Ristau family.

When Sgt. Mike Ristau, an avid bull rider, was called away from his home in Estacada to serve in Afghanistan, his "rodeo family" wanted to give him one last ride before heading out. They put together a small bull-riding jackpot as part of his going away celebration. Ristau enjoyed the festivities so much he asked for another upon his return.

Last year, during a barbeque, Ristau’s friends and family received the news that he had driven over a roadside bomb. Ristau was killed instantly, leaving behind his wife and two sons.

The proceeds from the tournament will help send his sons to college and pay for other family expenses.

Eight bull riders will be participating in honor of Ristau’s passion. The first 72 entrants will be accepted. The cost to play is $25, $20 of which will go to the family and the remaining $5 to a prize fund for the tournament winners. Also included in the event is a raffle and silent auction for authentic “cowboy gear.”
