Molalla voters have decided to implement a 3 percent tax on retail marijuana sales within the city.

Measure 3-488 passed by a wide margin; of 3,144 votes cast, 73 percent (2,296) were cast in favor of the measure, while 26 percent (848) voted against.

According to the explanatory statement on the original filing for the measure, there will be no restrictions on how the city may use the revenues generated by this tax.

ORS 475B.345 says that a city council may adopt an ordinance imposing up to a three percent tax on the sales of marijuana items. The Molalla City Council adopted the ordinance, and referred the measure to the voters.
