Bicyclist injured in Molalla crash
Oregon State Police are investigating a serious injury bicycle-involved crash that occurred Thursday, July 10 along Highway 211, just east of Molalla.
Police said the initial investigation indicates alcohol is a possible contributing factor on the part of the injured bicyclist. At approximately 7:40 a.m. Thursday, a 44-year old man was riding a bicycle westbound on Highway 211 near South Vaughan Road when he suddenly turned left into the path of a westbound pickup truck approaching from behind.
The driver of the 2005 Toyota pickup, Victor Maxfield, age 32, from Molalla, wasn't able to avoid the bicyclist, and the truck ran into him. The bicyclist was transported from the scene by Life Flight helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University hospital. Initial information indicates the man is in critical condition. His name is withheld at this time pending confirmation next of kin were notified. Maxfield was not injured. OSP was assisted at the scene by Molalla Police Department, Molalla Rural Fire Protection District, and ODOT. The highway was closed for about 45 minutes.
