Missing Molalla woman was sighted walking down Butte Creek Road March 14

by: CLACKAMAS COUNTY - Janice Lynn ErnestA Scotts Mills couple told Clackamas County deputies they had seen Janice Lynn Ernest, missing from her Molalla home since March 13, walking down Butte Hill Road on March 14.

While searching for Ernest Wednesday, March 26, deputies contacted the couple, who were working on some property in the search area near Butte Creek Road in the hills above Molalla.

While talking to the deputies, the couple positively identified Janice Ernest from a photograph. The couple told deputies they had seen Ernest walking down Butte Creek Road towards Scotts Mills on Friday, March 14. The couple said Ernest appeared to be walking fine. They said she looked a bit dirty, as if she had been walking in the woods. The couple said Ernest actively avoided direct contact with them when they saw her. The Sheriff's Office is asking residents of the Molalla and Scotts Mills areas to be on the lookout for Ms. Ernest. Deputies ask that residents and farmers check any storage sheds, barns or other outbuildings, in case she has sought shelter in the area.

A large search and rescue crew has been combing the woods and hilly country for Ernest in the area of Butte Creek Road where Sawtell Road forks off to Elk Prairie Road and Family Camp Road,.

Searchers has thought Ernest might have wandered into the forested area near Butte Creek Road, where her car was discovered Sunday by two bicyclists.

Search and Rescue (SAR) coordinators have been working with the Oregon Army National Guard, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Washington County, and Marion County resources to aid in the search. Sunday, Frank and Brian Nunn were out riding their bikes on Butte Creek Road when they came upon Ernest’s abandoned car in a section of road that is not maintained, said their father, Clarence Nunn. The car was parked on the side of the road, and the keys were not in the car, Nunn said.

The Nunns only a month ago found and rescued Joan Zuber, whose hand had been trapped under the hood of her truck for 18 hours.

Ernest is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, 125 pounds, with sandy brown hair and blue eyes.

No clothing description is available. Ernest suffers from bipolar disorder and is believed to be off of her medications, Molalla police said. She might also be easily confused and disoriented.
