A few local shopping ideas to avoid freeway traffic and mall madness this holiday season.

Holiday shopping madness has arrived. It can be treacherous in the malls amid the masses of people, circling for parking, slowly trudging from store to store, standing in lines that creep forward. This year, as you head out to do your holiday shopping, keep in mind that you don’t need to drive far to find a wide selection—in fact, you don’t need to leave Molalla.

While the below list isn’t comprehensive, it may set you in the right direction for finding local businesses that offer gifts for just about anyone on your list.

Season’s greetings

If you’re sending greeting cards this season, Country Values is your place to shop. While picking up your cards, don’t forget to grab some wrapping paper or stocking stuffers.

Dinner and dessert

Gift certificates make great stocking stuffers, and Molalla isn’t short on businesses that sell them. For $10 or $15 you can treat a friend or family member to Figaro’s Pizza or All Mine Yogurt (and maybe they’ll take you along for the treat).

Granny get your guns

Got a gun lover in the family? Think ammo. Wild Bill’s Guns carries just about anything you need—as long as what you need is guns and ammo.

Flowers and gift baskets

Surprise your special someone on Christmas morning with a gift basket from Wild Iris Flowers and Gifts. Also, pickup a flower arrangement to add a touch of color to the Christmas dinner table.

Let’s go bowling

Got a bowler or two in the family? Molalla Bowl is running a special in the pro-shop. All new balls, bags and shoes are marked down 20 percent from book price. If your bowlers don’t need new gear, maybe just drop a gift certificate for games into their stockings.

Give the gift of fitness

While restaurants seem like the clear option for gift certificates, they’re not the only option. Get a one, two or three month membership to Cutting Edge Fitness for the health guru in your family or for your friend that has set weight loss as a New Year’s resolution.

Power tools, grills and more

Stop by Ace Hardware and pickup a new drill or a fancy grill. There’s also plenty of apparel to outfit your family for the winter ahead.

It’s all about the memories

Along with selling toys, clothing and more, Cutters Hi-School Pharmacy also prints photos. Got a good shot of your kids on Santa’s lap? Throw it on a flash drive and take it to Cutters. Frame it and give it to the grandparents.

Purses, and wallets, and belts. Oh my!

Cowgirls Trading Company is burning through stock this winter. Purses, starting at $39, are in and out of the store quicker than you can say Jack Robinson. They also carry home décor, like custom cowhide-trimmed mirrors.

Taste this state

Get a taste of Oregon with wines made just down the road from Molalla. The tasting room at Alexeli Vineyard and Winery will be open on Dec. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. Find deals on four packs, six packs, half cases and full cases of wine for your holiday parties. A great gift for your friends from out of state—or a good opportunity to stock your cellar for winter.

Golfers, golfers, everywhere

Got a golfer in the family that just can’t quit? Head to the pro-shop at Arrowhead Golf and Athletic Club for a new putter, wedge or full set of clubs. (Golf balls fit nicely in a stocking as well.) If your golfer doesn’t need new clubs, maybe get them a membership to the course, or if they’re already a member, grab them a gift certificate to Farmstead Restaurant, located right next the greens.

Americana to the core

Home décor, crafts, homemade soaps, hand-painted signs and vintage galore. Rustic Shed has what your Americana-loving neighbors want. The shop is freshly stocked with Christmas inventory.

Manly things

Need to outfit your man? Head to The Man’s Shop, where boots, jackets, shirts, hats and more await you.

Auto parts?

Probably the first place you think of for holiday shopping isn’t the auto parts store, but maybe you should. Car and truck accessories, tools, and perhaps a few not-entirely-necessary upgrades could make Napa, O’Reilly, Carquest or Les Schwab a good option for holiday shopping.
