Reaching for the big dream
Natural Health Supplements may be eligible for a $250,000 grant.
One local businesswoman is shooting for big money this month. Sherrie Rhodes, the owner of Natural Health Supplements, has applied for a $250,000 grant from a newly launched program called Mission Main Street Grants.
The grant program will give out a total of $3 million to 12 small businesses nationwide. To be eligible, a business must submit an application and receive at least 250 votes from the public before Nov. 15. As of Nov. 11, Rhodes had received 253 votes. The businesses that get the needed public vote will move into the second round, where a panel of judges will decide which businesses get the money.
Rhodes isnt the only local businessperson looking to dip into the Mission Main Street Grants pool either. MG Photography and 3 Catz Espresso Café are both on the roster. However, as of Nov. 11 they had only received four votes each.
As for Natural Health Supplements, Rhodes is hopeful but realistic, as she knows many businesses have applied.
If we get lucky enough to get chosen, that would be awesome, Rhodes said. However, even if her business isnt chosen, she still plans to continue with her plans, just on a smaller scale.
Natural Health Supplements is striving to grow and expand by opening a storefront location, Rhodes said. Receiving this grant would be an unbelievable opportunity.
Rhodes, who is currently operating the business from home, said she is ready to take Natural Health Supplements to the next level.
Weve been open for six years, she said. In that time, her and her husband have offered different health-related services. Its been in the last year and half that weve figured out where wed like to take the business, Rhodes said. We have little dreams and big dreams.
The grant would help her achieve the big dreams, which include expanding into a storefront and offering personal training as well as increasing the products they carry.
Weve lived here for eight years and love the community, Rhodes said. We want to flourish where were planted.
