Molalla man convicted of sexual abuse
Man accused of molesting a 5-year-old girl sentenced to 10 years in prison
A Molalla man was convicted of sexual abuse Thursday after being accused of molesting the 5-year-old daughter of friends he had known for years.
Ezequiel Salas-Gonzalez, 44, rented a room from a friend of the family who babysat the child. When Salas-Gonzalez was alone with the girl, he fondled her and took an explicit picture of her with his cell phone, said Clackamas County prosecutor Rusty Amos at a Thursday court hearing.
The child told her mother, who reported the incidents to the Molalla Police Department in June. An investigation uncovered the photo as well as child pornography stored on Salas-Gonzalez's computer, Amos said.
Salas-Gonzalez denied the sexual abuse allegations but admitted taking a picture of the little girl, nude after she got out of the shower, and to once downloading child pornography.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, using a child in a display and six counts of encouraging child sexual abuse. Clackamas County Circuit Judge Kathie Steele sentenced Salas-Gonzalez to 10 years in prison.
Amos said Salas-Gonzalez's immigration status is unclear, but he will probably be deported to Mexico after he serves his sentence.
The childs older sister attended the hearing, telling the judge that the mans crimes merited a longer sentence. She tearfully told Gonzalez, I hope you rot in jail.
Gonzalez asked the judge for forgiveness for disrespecting this country. The judge said he may receive forgiveness someday, but it wont be from her.
