A watermelon eating contest for kids kicked off the annual Wild River BBQ
Jack Scymanky, 7, was pretty proud of eating the most watermelon the fastest Saturday, winning the championship trophy at the watermelon eating contest at the Wild River BBQ Cookoff in Clark Park at Molalla.
The annual event continues Saturday to 7 p.m. with food, an entertainment stage, a beer and wine tent and vendors.
Sunday, cooking demonstrations, the Iron chef Competition and this year's new Dutch Oven Competition highlight the event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is free. Scrip sells for $5 per ticket to purchase food and drinks.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the Molalla River Alliance, a 501(c)3 organization.
