Creative Hands group members have warm hands, hearts

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - The Creative Hands group meets every Thursday to knit and crochet items to be donated to those in need. Newcomers are always welcome as are donations of yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon a very charitable group, Creative Hands, meets at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.

They knit, purl and crochet the hours away on wonderful items they then give to those in need. Examples of their projects include blankets and afghans for Project Linus, an organization that provides comforting blankets or afghans to the seriously ill children who could benefit from a cozy “blanket hug.” The Creative Hands also make hats for preemie babies at OHSU.

The big project they are focused on right now is to create 3,000 hat and scarf sets — yes, 3,000! The hat and scarf sets are for the Fill a Stocking, Fill a Heart organization that serves the most in need in Clackamas County. At Christmastime, stockings are stuffed with items, including a hat and scarf set that is age and gender appropriate. The deadline for completing the 3,000 sets is in September, so fingers are working double time.

If you would like to join Creative Hands and put your talents to work on their projects come join us. We could also use donations of partial and full skeins of yarn, and knitting needles and crochet hooks are all very much needed.

Help provide someone in need with the gift of a favorite blanket, hat or scarf.
