Looking for a fundraising opportunity? Use imagination

Creepy, creative ideas could earn originators cash

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Creatures of the Night won last years Haunted Trail at Mary S. Young park. They will be back to defend their title.

West Linn Parks and Recreation and their partners are seeking West Linn’s most inspired, humorous, creepy and peculiar families, businesses, organizations and clubs to compete for cash prizes for the best Halloween scenes during the Haunted Trail Event at Mary S. Young Park in October.

Proposals will be accepted from now until the end of business on Sept. 10 and six scene finalists will be selected and notified Sept. 15. The scene selection committee will include representatives of the West Linn Parks and Recreation Department and event volunteers.

Cash awards will be presented to the top three scenes: $400 for first place, $250 for second place, $100 for third place. Winners will be selected by an independent committee not associated with the contestants or sponsors. Originality, quality of set design, interpretation of theme and overall presentation will be the criteria for scoring the final six entries at the event.

The first place winner will receive an automatic invitation back in 2015 to defend their title.

The Haunted Trail will be held Oct. 24 and 25.

Detailed contest information is available at westlinnoregon.gov/parksrec/2014-haunted-trail-mary-s-young.

Previous winners are Creatures of the Night in 2013 and the West Linn High School Cross Country Team in 2012.
