Teens, tell us what you like to do and well listen

by: STAFF FILE PHOTO - Teens can take drivers education through West Linn Parks and Recreation.

Over the years, many of the best events for teens offered through West Linn Parks and Recreation were thought of and facilitated by teens. And while there isn’t currently an active teen advisory board, it doesn’t mean we’ve stopped listening.

If you have an idea for a class or event geared toward teens, we would like to talk to you. Some of the past teen activities include co-ed recreational volleyball open gym time, end of school year concert and party, glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt and showing of an outdoor movie at Rosemont Ridge Middle School.

If you would like to see offerings of cooking, sewing, archery, adventure day trips, etc., let us know by contacting your West Linn Parks and Recreation Department. We would like to make your ideas possible. Contact Terri Jones at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 503-557-4700.

Two of the biggest milestones as a teenager are getting your first job and earning your driver’s license. Parks and recreation has two great partners to help prepare teens for these big responsibilities.

Often one of the first jobs for young teens is baby-sitting. With baby sitter training through the American Red Cross, you will be ready for the responsibility for others in your care. It is intended for those age 11 through 15 years. The next classes begin in May, just in time to prepare you for that summer baby-sitting job.

And while the idea of teens driving is something that gives many parents anxiety, they will feel better knowing that essential instruction is available to their unlicensed drivers younger than 18 with a permit. Parks and recreation offers this training in collaboration with Oregon Driver Training Institute. For information about upcoming classes, call ODTI directly at 503-225-0770.
