Learn about women going global at AAUW meeting

The American Association of University Women Lake Oswego branch invites the public to a free presentation titled “Going Global — International Women Students in the U.S.”

The program will be presented at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oswego Heritage House, 398 10th St. in Lake Oswego.

Judy VanDyck, director of International Student and Scholar Services in the Office of International Affairs at Portland State University, and three of her female international students will discuss the impact studying abroad has on students and how this might impact their home countries.

They will talk about the education system in their home countries and why they chose to come to the U.S. The students will be Thanissara Poomlaochaeng, a graduate student in counseling education from Thailand; Junqi Li, coordinator of PSU’s International Women’s Group from China; and Anika Amin, a pre-med student from Bangladesh.

VanDyck has studied in both France and Japan. She has been a study abroad adviser, director of English as a second language programs and director of International Special Programs at PSU during her 30-plus year career in international student work.

PSU has more than 2,000 international students enrolled from nearly 100 countries.
