FRIDAY'S TOP FIVE

Tigard beats West Linn 9-0, snaps Lions' long winning streak

Seven hundred twenty-nine days.

Nearly 24 months.

One year, 11 months and 28 days.

That's how long it had been since the West Linn football team had lost a Three Rivers League game.

But that's just what happened on Friday, with Tigard using its ground-pounding offensive attack, clock control and physical defense to beat the Lions 9-0 at West Linn High School.

Big-play Lake Oswego tops Sherwood

It certainly was a clash of styles.

For the Sherwood High School football team, it was smash-mouth, pound-it-on-the-ground action, time and time again.

Meanwhile, Lake Oswego relied on its big-play capabilities, both on offense and defense.

Well, the big plays won out.

The Lakers, coming up with timely big plays on both sides of the ball, came away with a 27-16 win over the Bowmen in a hard-fought Three Rivers League game played Friday at Sherwood High School.

Wilsonville drubs Sandy 48-14

The matchup between the fifth-ranked Sandy Pioneers and the ninth-ranked Wilsonville Wildcats was slated to be the game of the year in the Northwest Oregon Conference.

It turned out to be anything but.

The Wildcats held Sandy to just 99 yards of total offense as Wilsonville (5-1, 4-0 NWOC) took down Sandy (4-2, 3-1 NWOC) with a convincing 48-14 victory on Friday night.

REVIEW/NEWS PHOTO: JIM BESEDA - Milwaukie's Chazz Amundsen breaks free for some of his 220 yards during his team's 36-34 home win over La Salle.

Run game lifts Milwaukie over La Salle, 36-34

As Milwaukie quarterback Grey Andreasen-VanOtten scanned the La Salle Prep defense, he saw something that made him think it might be a mistake to turn and hand the ball to Noah Ramirez.

So, he called his own number.

Facing fourth-and-1, Andreasen-VanOtten faked a handoff to Ramirez, kept the ball and scored on a 28-yard run with 1:06 to play as the Mustangs celebrated homecoming with a 36-34 Northwest Oregon Conference victory Friday over the Falcons.

Tualatin football gets back on track with 43-7 win over Newberg

Coming off back-to-back losses, the Tualatin football team very much needed to hit the reset button Friday night versus Newberg.

The Timberwolves certainly did that, dominating the Tigers from the opening whistle to post a decisive 43-7 home victory.
