Pacer boys lacrosse ready for showdown with Lincoln

Lakeridge easily gets past Glencoe to move into the state quarterfinals

Lakeridge's boys lacrosse team didn't have any trouble in its playoff opener Monday, routing Glencoe 20-3 to move into the quarterfinals where a showdown with Lincoln awaits.

The Pacers put Glencoe away early, getting their bench players in the game early in the second half.

Lakeridge has now posted three straight wins while scoring 20 or more goals.

The Pacer defense did a nice job shutting down Glencoe and never giving the team much of a chance to get into the game.

Lakeridge lost one of its top defenders in the regular season, Chase Marshall, to a torn ACL, but the back line, which has been a strength for the Pacers all year, has continued to be rock solid.

“It was a blow to lose Chase but the other guys are really picking it up,” Lakeridge coach Curt Sheinin said.

On offense, Lakeridge spread the ball around and got multiple players involved. The Pacers assisted on the bulk of their goals and Austin Gregg led the scoring, putting four shots in the back of the net.

“It was pretty evenly distributed and we moved the ball very well,” Sheinin said.

Lakeridge moves on to play in perhaps the most anticipated match-up of the quarterfinals. Lakeridge an Lincoln have won the past two state championships and, despite behind ranked No. 4 and No. 5 in the bracket, are each considered state title contenders again this year.

Both teams have improved from the start of the season after Lakeridge topped the Cardinals in both teams' season opener 7-6.

“We won a sloppy game early in the year. I think our defense is going to be really important. They have a few kids who can really score. It's a very tough match-up,” Sheinin said.

Lakeridge will host the game Friday at 7 p.m.
