Laker swimmers drub Canby heading into WL meet


Lake Oswego's swim teams picked up a pair of wins against Canby last week as the regular season starts to wind down.

The LO girls dominated the event with a 131-39 victory and the Laker boys won comfortably 100-69.

In the boys' competition, Lake Oswego's medley relay team of Austin Weng, Logan Kojiro, Edward Kang and Ryan Sklar won in 1:49.96 to open the meet.

Two races later, Kojiro picked up an easy win in the individual medley in 2:13.20.

The teams traded victories early on. Kang captured the butterfly in convincing fashion, touching the wall in 55.66 seconds. Then, in the 500 freestyle, Marco Wolmarans won in 5:33.84, followed by Andrew Goodall and Adam Jasmin in second and third.

Kang scored his second individual victory of the day in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.15 seconds. Then, in the next race, Kojiro and Daniel Kim went 1-2 in the breaststroke.

For the girls, Lake Oswego won all but one event and took first and second in eight different races.

The medley relay team of Amy Chen, Abby Lyons, Maddie McMurray and Yafan Mao won by more than 13 seconds in 1:57.76.

That was followed by a 1-2-3 showing in the 200 freestyle. Lauren Wagner won the event in 2:10.54, followed by Mikayla Mathison and Madison Goodall.

It was another 1-2-3- finish in the individual medley, led by Lyons' winning time of 2:19.85 and followed by Emi Ampo and Lisa Oldham.

Mao, Chen and Alexis Sinclair swept the 50 freestyle and McMurray followed with a win in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.65.

Mao, Mathison and Goodall then tallied another Laker sweep in the 100 freestyle with Mao winning in 57.35 seconds.

Wagner and McMurray then went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, leading into a 1-2 finish by the Laker relay teams in the 200 freestyle.

In the 100 breaststroke, Chen scored her second victory of the day, followed by Jeske Paanakker and Sarah Dolan.

The Lakers capped the day with a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay as well. Lake Oswego has a tough test ahead as it squares off against West Linn today (Thursday) at home at 6 p.m.
