Pacer swim teams battle Pioneers

The Lakeridge swim teams split with Oregon City in a league dual meet last week. The girls continued their strong start to the season with a 130-40 victory while the boys were topped 88-77.

In the boys meet, an error caused three Lakeridge swimmers to miss the 100 freestyle, which coach Derek Abbott says likely cost the Pacers the meet.

One of the best races of the evening came early. In the first individual race, Lakeridge's Liam O'Shea was touched out at the wall in the 200 freestyle, taking second place in 1:52.51 seconds.

Lakeridge's Sam Swaim and Jackson Waste finished second and third respectively in the butterfly and the Pacers would sweep the 500 freestyle.

O'Shea won the event with a terrific time of 4:59.26 seconds, followed by teammates Max Swaim and Owen Hart.

In the 100 backstroke, Lakeridge's Alex Schaffer won in 1:02.72 seconds and Max Swaim took second.

Lakeridge would also finish the meet on a high note, taking first and second in the 400 freestyle relay.

For the girls, it would have been difficult to dominate the meet more thoroughly. After placing first and second in the medley relay, Brenda Cha and Noelle Foden-Vencil placed 1-2 in the 200 freestyle. Cha won the event in 2:05.00.

Rowan Hauber and Keaton Weil took 1-2 in the 50 freestyle with Hauber touching the wall in 27.05 seconds.

In the 100 butterfly, Keaton Blovad picked up her first win in 59.65 seconds while Jordynn Canelis won the 100 freestyle in 58.75, followed closely by teammate Cristal McAninch.

In the 500 freestyle, Madison Canelis and Hauber dueled each other in an exceptionally close race. Canelis edged out her teammate at the wall by one-hundredth of a second in 5:49.79.

It was a 1-2-3 finish for Lakeridge in the backstroke. Cha won the event in 1:11.09, followed by Foden-Vencil and Bailey Morris.

Blovad scored a second individual win in the 100 breaststroke while teammates Dorothy Wang and Lisa Douglas took second and third.

Lakeridge would also take the top two spots in all three relays.
