LO bake shop owner Kyra Bussanich is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and competing for the title of Woman of the Year

BUSSANICHKyra Bussanich has some big plans baking over the next 10 weeks.

The four-time winner of Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" and owner of Lake Oswego's Kyra's Bake Shop last weekend launched her campaign for the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Man and Woman of the Year competition.

From March 10 through May 20, Bussanich is on a mission to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), a nationwide program that supports blood cancer research and provides patients with access to treatments.

Bussanich's campaign is called "Remembering Henry" — one of her friends from high school lost his 3-year-old son, Henry, to an infant form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013. She says that through her campaign, she hopes to raise $150,000 to have a research grant named in his honor.

"I want (his life) to carry on," she says.

As part of her campaign, Bussanich is partnering with Lakeridge Junior High eighth-grader Anna Seely — a survivor of acute myeloid leukemia and the LLS Girl of the Year — to create a special "Anna's Cure" cupcake that she'll sell at her bakery during the month of April to raise money for the LLS.

The chocolate cupcake features a few of Anna's favorite things, including orange buttercream filling, raspberry frosting, a sparkly pink cherry blossom flower and an orange leukemia awareness ribbon. All profits from the cupcake sales will support the LLS.

Here are a few of Bussanich's upcoming fundraising efforts. To learn more, visit the Team Remembering Henry Facebook page at bit.ly/2mG8FZy.
