City Notes

WATER LINE BREAK — Lake Oswego residents who live on Condolea Court and Condolea Drive had to boil water before drinking it for about a day because of issues resulting from a broken water line.

A 4-inch cast iron pipe broke Friday afternoon. While service was restored at about 11 p.m. that evening, residents had to boil water until tests of a sample showed there was no bacteria in it, according to the city. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that might be in the water.

The city announced boil orders were in effect around 12 a.m. Saturday.

Officials lifted those orders at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, after lab results for the water sample came back clear.

WATER PARTNERSHIP — Officials coordinating the Lake Oswego-Tigard Water Partnership’s infrastructure projects are looking for new routes for a pipeline in the Oswego Lake area. This change in direction stems from cost proposals that “substantially exceeded program estimates” for running a pipeline under the lake, according to the partnership. Instead, officials are now considering routes around the lake instead of underneath it, and they expect to identify an alternative plan by the end of the year. Survey, design and geotechnical work and permitting for the alternate alignment are expected to follow.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES — City offices will be closed from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and all day Wednesday because of the Christmas holiday.

CHARITY — The city is collecting winter clothing and donations of toys and food for families in need.

Gently used mittens, gloves, scarves and blankets and new toys still in their packaging will be accepted along with nonperishable food.

Donations can be dropped off at city hall, 380 A Ave.; the West End Building, 4101 Kruse Way; the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, 505 G Ave.; and the Main Fire Station, 300 B Ave.

They are due by noon Friday. For more information, contact Diana Smith-Bouwer at 503-635-0257.
