The Portland Ballet will present "Tell Me the Truth about Love," an evening of cabaret love songs April 29 at the Studio Theater located at 6250 S.W. Capitol Highway in Portland.
The event features mezzo soprano Elizabeth Eklund and pianist Sandra Hyslop singing songs by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Francis Poulenc, Erik Satie and more. The event launches the organization's annual fundraising campaign, which carries the theme "Let's Put on a Show!" The fundraiser supports the finishing touches on the phase two studio expansion for The Portland Ballet.
Since childhood, Eklund has sung on opera stages, performed as a soloist with choruses and orchestras, and given memorable concerts of solo works and vocal chamber music throughout the United States. Her expressive voice and her acting talents have suited her choices of repertoire, which ranges from classical to cabaret. She has a master's degree in vocal performance from Bradley University, where she is on faculty. In addition to her active singing career, she serves as a teacher, coach and mentor to many Northwest vocal students in her Lake Oswego studio.
Hyslop began her musical collaborations with singers at a young age. Her lifelong passion for the singer's art and repertoire has informed her work as a vocal coach and accompanist. She earned a master's degree in piano performance from the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, and has received praise for her performances in chamber music with instrumentalists as well as with singers. She has advanced degrees in German and English and has received an ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for distinguished writing about music.
Tickets are $5-$65 and include dessert and drinks. Order tickets online at theportlandballet.org or call 503-750-3157.
