HomeWord Bound benefit set for April 11 at Oregon Zoo

Cheryl Strayed will headline 16th annual event


by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - New York Times best-selling author Cheryl Strayed will be the headliner at HomeWord Bound, a literary fundraiser for Community Partners for Affordable Housing.

Best-selling author Cheryl Strayed will be the headline presenter at the 16th annual HomeWord Bound: An Event of Literary Proportions to be held April 11 at the Oregon Zoo. The event is a fundraiser for Community Partners for Affordable Housing.

Strayed’s memoir, “Wild,” was chosen as Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 first pick, and is currently being made into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon.

Other featured speakers include popular writer and arts, music and TV journalist Peter Ames Carlin, whose latest book, “Bruce,” is widely acclaimed as the definitive biography of musician Bruce Springsteen and author Cari Luna, whose debut novel, “The Revolution of Every Day,” was chosen as one of the Top 10 Northwest books of 2013.

Additional guest authors scheduled to attend include Stevan Allred, Kelly Williams Brown, Monica Drake, Kent Hartman, April Henry, Bart King, Matt Love, Julie Richardson, Kevin Sampsell and Willy Vlauatin.

Special guest Dan Murphy, founding general manager of The Broadway Rose Theatre Company in Tigard, will once again perform as master of ceremonies.

CPAH will present the Friend of Affordable Housing Award to Metro Councilor Craig Dirksen.

HomeWord Bound tickets are $85 each, or $850 for a table of 10. Reservations are required and can be made online at cpahinc.org or by calling Tracy Stepp, HomeWord Bound coordinator, at 503-293-4038. The evening includes dinner, a silent auction and author signings with books available for purchase.

The Oregon Zoo is located at 4001 SW Canyon Road in Portland.
