Hailey Niswanger, one of America’s up-and-coming young jazz artists and a West Linn native, will present concerts to raise funds to finance her third CD project, “PDX Soul.”

The CD will feature Portland musicians, including her former mentor Thara Memory and another noted former Memory pupil/multi-Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding.

The concerts will be held at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Jan. 3 at Jimmy Mak’s, 221 NW 10th Ave., Portland.

At the Jimmy Mak’s fundraiser, Niswanger and Memory will be joined by other CD contributors including Janice Scroggins, piano; Doug Lewis, guitar; Errick Lewis, bass; Louis “King Louie” Pain, B-3; Israel Annoh, drums; Chris Brown, drums; Stan Bock, trombone; Farnell Newton, trumpet; and Renato Caranto, sax. The music will be a set of funk, soul, jazz - music Niswanger describes as “Herbie Hancock meets James Brown” — and will also include several Niswanger originals.

Tickets are $18 general admission with no seating guaranteed or $20 reserved seating, with dinner required. Dinner reservations require a $15 per person food minimum.
