The graphic novel “Earthing!” written by West Linn author and Illustrator Mark Fearing has won the Oregon Spirit Book Award in the graphic novel category.

The Oregon Council of Teachers of English awards the honor.

“The Oregon Spirit Book Award is given yearly to the author of a distinguished contribution to picture books, juvenile, young adult, graphic novels or non-fiction literature that engages and encourages readers’ imagination, discovery and understanding, reflecting the spirit and values held by Oregonians,” said Dorothy Courtox, co-chair of the OCTE Spirit Book Award.

Fearing also noted that a Czech version of “Earthling!” was released this spring.

“My grandfather was born in Prague, so maybe this translation is part of the circle of life. But not the part where lions eat gophers,” Fearing wrote in a blog entry about the release.
