Women’s running event returns

The Happy Girls Run Forest Grove is back at Hagg Lake for a second consecutive year on Saturday, Sept. 6. This women’s running event includes off-road half marathon, 10-kilometer and 5K races along lakeside trails and paths.

Registration fee is $85 for the half marathon, $45 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K, and includes goody bags, Happy Girl active wear and post-race refreshments.

The beneficiaries for this year’s event are the domestic violence agency Raphael House of Portland and the organization Girls Inc., which provides empowering programs and experiences for girls. The field is limited to 500 participants. Registration and more information is available at happygirlsrun.com/forestgrove.

Hops playoff tickets on sale

Tickets to the Hillsboro Hops playoff series are now available for sale to the public.

The Hops guaranteed themselves a spot in the Northwest League playoffs earlier this season by winning the South Division’s first-half pennant. They will play Game 1 of their divisional series on the road against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. They are guaranteed to host Game 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Ron Tonkin Field. Game 3, if necessary, also will be played at Ron Tonkin Field on Sept. 4.

Tickets are available for all potential playoff games and are priced from $7 to $16. If the “if necessary” games do not take place, ticket buyers will be refunded the cost. That includes tickets during the league’s championship round. Should the Hops win their divisional series, they will host at least one game of the NWL championship series, scheduled for Sept. 6-8.

The Hops still have a few regular season games at home. They are scheduled to wrap up a five-game series against Spokane with contests tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. The team will conclude the regular season with three games at home against Eugene Aug. 30-Sept. 1.

To purchase Hops tickets or for more information, go to hillsborohops.com, contact the box office at 503-640-0887 or order in person at Ron Tonkin Field.

Run at airport scheduled

An unusual running event is coming to Hillsboro next month — the Run on the Runway.

This 5-kilometer race will take place on the runway at Hillsboro Airport as part of the Oregon International Air Show, which returns to Washington County Sept. 19-21. The run itself is set for the final day of the airshow, Sunday, Sept. 21.

The route will wind around the grounds of the airport at Runway 20. The race is open to participants age 16 and older and will benefit the Hillsboro Schools Foundation.

Participants will have access to the starting area beginning at 8 a.m., and the race will begin at 9. It must conclude by 10:30, so race organizers request that only those who can complete the race in an hour sign up.

Registration is available at oregonairshow.com and is open to 500 participants (runners only). Fee is $45, which includes a technical T-shirt, general admission entry to the air show on Sept. 21 and VIP parking. Packet pickup is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Sept. 17 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce on Elam Young Parkway in Hillsboro.
