Hillsboro set to host prep football state title games
Class 5A, 4A and 1A state championships will be played this weekend
Oregon will crown high school state football champions in its five smallest classifications this weekend, and three of those games will be played in Hillsboro.
Hillsboro Stadium will host the Class 5A, 4A and 1A state championship games on Saturday, giving fans a chance to check out some of the best prep football teams in the state.
The 4A championship will kick off a full day of football when No. 2 Cottage Grove (10-2) faces No. 4 Ridgeview (12-1) at 11 a.m. Cottage Grove blocked a last-second field goal to escape with a 37-34 win over North Bend in the semifinals last week, while Ridgeview blew out previously undefeated Philomath 49-17 in the other semifinal.
The 1A title game between No. 1 Lowell (12-0) and No. 3 Imbler (11-1) will follow at 2:30 p.m. Lowell knocked off two-time defending state champion Camas Valley 66-44 in last weeks semifinal game, and Imbler was a 62-6 winner over Triangle Lake.
The 5A championship will pit No. 1 Sherwood (12-0) against No. 2 West Albany (11-1) at 5:30 p.m. Sherwood has appeared in the last three state title games, winning two championships. West Albany enjoyed a similar run from 2006-08, making three title game appearances and capturing a pair of state titles.
