Cycling event for charity this weekend

The Harvest Century bike ride is slated to return to Hillsboro this weekend.

The 11th annual event is scheduled for Sunday and will start and finish at the Civic Center in downtown Hillsboro. The ride serves as a fundraiser for Community Vision, a nonprofit that helps individuals with developmental disabilities with housing, employment, supported living and homeownership support.

Ride participants may choose from routes of 100, 75, 45 and 3 miles. The free 3-mile route is family-friendly, so it is open to bicycles, tricycles, wheelchairs and to those who prefer to walk.

The other courses will take participants on roads throughout Washington and Yamhill Counties, including a stop at the Montinore Estate vineyard in Forest Grove for $5 wine tasting. On the longest route, cyclists will also pass through or along the communities of Newberg, Canby, Wilsonville and Sherwood, as well as northwest of Hillsboro.

Courses open at 7 a.m. for the two longest distances, 9 a.m. for the 45-mile ride, and 2:30 p.m. for the family route. The two longer routes include a lunch stop, and all participants may take part in a post-ride barbecue. Meal tickets must be purchased by family route participants.

Registration is available online until the day before the ride. Event-day registration will be available on site. Cost is $55 through Saturday, or $65 on ride day. For more information, go to harvestcentury.org.
