Seniors present holiday variety show

Northwest Senior Theater offers two more performances this week of “All Things Holiday.”

Directed by Ray Beyer, 20 cast members from Hillsboro and the metro area will put you in the holiday mood with a variety show complete with singing, dancing and comedy.

The curtain rises on the family friendly show at 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at Alpenrose Dairy Opera House, 6149 S.W. Shattuck Road, Portland. General admission tickets are $5. Handicapped access and parking are available. For information, call 503-227-2003.

Poet discusses

writing craft

Poet Tiah Lindner-Raphael visits Hillsboro Monday, Nov. 25, to read and talk about her work. Presented by the Hillsboro group Conversations with Writers, her free talk begins at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Main Library Branch, 2850 Brookwood Parkway. Questions from the audience are welcome.

A Portland writer, editor and teacher, Lindner-Raphael holds a master of science degree in writing and book publishing from Portland State University. Her poetry is in CutBank Literary Magazine and will appear in “Just Now: Twenty New Portland Poets,” an anthology edited by Peter Sears.

Fly Gals story told

Author and historian Sig Unander recounts the story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots, the first female fighter pilots in World War II, Friday, Nov. 29.

His free talk includes rare period photographs and honors several individual WASPs, including Portlander Hazel Lee Ying, who died on a fighter plane ferry mission. Hosted by Cornell Estates Retirement & Assisted Living, 1005 N.E. 17th Ave., Hillsboro, Unander’s talk begins at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Forest Center staff teach wreath-making

Learn how to make a holiday wreath or a bird feeder from a cone at the Tillamook Forest Center.

The family class is offered Friday, Nov. 29, Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required by Sunday, Nov. 24. The cost of supplies and materials is $12 to make a wreath; $3 to make a feeder. The center is located at 45500 Wilson River Highway. For more information, call 503-815-6800.
