Cities get PGE checks for fees

Five western Washington County cities recently received checks from Portland General Electric — payments resulting from annual franchise fees and privilege taxes PGE pays city governments for the right to operate within the municipality for the calendar year.

Banks received $72,323; North Plains, $90,765; Cornelius, $208,967; and Hillsboro $5,406,846. This year’s payments to 11 cities in the county total $12,358,128.

“Oregon is our home and we want to support the communities where we live and work,” said Mark Fryburg, PGE representative for Washington County. “These payments give PGE a way to support city services as we continue to provide residents and businesses with safe and reliable power.”

What PGE pays ranges from 3.5 percent to 5 percent of annual gross revenue earned within a city.
