City snags award for police video

Remember all of the international media attention and controversy generated by the city of Hillsboro’s farcical police chief recruitment video last year? Well, as it turns out, the reporters from CNN, the BBC and the Huffington Post are not the only ones who noticed Hillsboro’s creativity.

The Alliance for Innovation recently honored the city of Hillsboro with an Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award at its Transforming Local Government 2014 Conference. The award was in recognition of the Police Chief Recruitment Video’s innovative approach to attracting top talent.

Even better, the video led to the hiring of Hillsboro Police Chief Lee Dobrowolski, who is now in his fourth month on the job. Dobrowolski was serving as deputy police chief in Salt Lake City when he saw the video and decided to apply for the top cop’s job in Hillsboro.
