Arrest made in Jan. 6 shooting

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 shooting of a 24-year-old man on Northwest Adams Street in Hillsboro.

On Jan. 14 at 6 p.m., U.S. Marshals located the suspect — identified as Lionel Campuzano-Real, 30 — in Aloha. After a traffic stop, Campuzano-Real was taken into custody without incident by the marshals and lodged in the Washington County Jail. Campuzano-Real was charged with attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, assault 1, riot, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and heroin. His bail was set at $250,000.

Law enforcement officials allege that Campuzano-Real was the shooter in the Jan. 6 case.

The investigation revealed that the victim in this case became involved in a verbal argument with what is believed to be two male suspects while walking down Adams Street.

The argument escalated, became physical, and one round was fired from a handgun by one of the suspects. The bullet struck the victim and he fell to the street while the suspects fled on foot.

The victim was transported to Emanuel Hospital via ambulance where he is currently in stable condition, recovering from a gunshot wound to his chest.

This investigation has been ongoing with the Hillsboro Police Department, U.S. Marshals, the Washington County Inter-Agency Gang Enforcement Team and the Transit Police. Detectives believe the crime was gang-related.
