Banks play musical chairs with name

The name may have changed, but the people and service remain the same.

That’s the message from Rick Roby, president and CEO of Premier Community Bank, which is headquartered in Hillsboro. The name was recently changed from Columbia Community Bank after Tacoma-based Columbia Bank bought West Coast Bank.

“We’d thought about renaming the bank for a while because of all the other businesses with Columbia in their names in the region, but the West Coast Bank change was really the catalyst because they’re in our service area,” said Roby.

According to Roby, the bank’s board of directors considered several other names, including geographic ones, but went with Premier because that’s how they see their services.

“Premier is a great name because it’s true to us,” said Roby.

Columbia Community Bank opened its doors in 1999, and currently has bank operations in Hillsboro, Durham, Forest Grove and Tanasbourne in Beaverton. It also has a loan production office in Newberg. Oregon Business magazine named it one of the 100 best companies to work for in the Portland area in 2013 and previous years. Columbia Commercial Bancorp was formed in 2002 as a holding company for Columbia Community Bank.

“It’s important to emphasize that this change is in name only, and that the bank is not being sold or merging with any other financial institution,” Roby explained. “We are still the same independent, locally-owned, community bank that our valued clients have known and trusted for years.”
